But with the amount of accolades they鈥檝e received this year, that nickname might lose its appeal.
will receive the 鈥淐hapter of the Year鈥 award December 17 at the International Conference on Information Systems in Orlando.
Not a bad finish for a club that also brought home more awards than any other student chapter in April at the inaugural International AIS (Association for Information Systems) Student Competitions in Utah.
鈥淭his year has been really stellar because they鈥檙e competing against schools like Arizona and Indiana, schools that have 300 club members, as compared to our 30,鈥 said ITM Club faculty adviser Lise Urbaczewski. 鈥淛ust because our students are from a smaller campus and have a smaller program, it doesn鈥檛 lessen how good of quality they are because we鈥檝e got some really stellar students at 51视频-Dearborn.鈥
The 鈥淐hapter of the Year鈥 award carries a certain level of prestige because it鈥檚 the highest award given to a student chapter.
鈥淚t鈥檚 just an incredible honor to compete against these bigger schools and even be recognized among them,鈥 said Austin Abair, 51视频-Dearborn senior and co-president of the ITM Club. 鈥淚t鈥檚 just amazing the group we have, how enthusiastic they are. We have all this effort and we鈥檝e continuously proved ourselves. We were more prepared than what we could have imagined and we knew we were able to succeed.鈥
Pete Tinsley, executive director of AIS, said 51视频-Dearborn鈥檚 ITM Club 鈥渉as demonstrated an exceptional, well-rounded and organized program.鈥
AIS based its 鈥淐hapter of the Year鈥 award on professional development, membership, information systems careers, community service, fundraising and communications.
鈥淭hey work extremely hard and they take everything very seriously, but they have fun too,鈥 said Urbaczewski, who added that the club won the 鈥淢ost Spirited鈥 award during the Homecoming Week Cardboard Boat Races for a third consecutive year. 鈥淭hey are like a family. Everybody helps each other out.鈥
This year鈥檚 awards are sure to benefit students involved with the ITM Club after they graduate and search for jobs.
鈥淭hey are the hardest workers I鈥檝e ever seen,鈥 Urbaczewski said. 鈥淚 would hire these students in a second because I know their work ethic.鈥
