Yuja Panorama Faculty Update - Winter 2025

Hello colleagues,

We would like to provide you with a short update on the rollout of U-M鈥檚 new Canvas accessibility check/review tool, Yuja Panorama.

You may have noticed the new colored icons next to the titles of various objects in Canvas.  These icons are from Yuja Panorama, and are meant to convey the level of accessibility of each content item (green is high accessibility with a 91% or better score, yellow is medium with a score of 60%-90%, and red is low with a score below 60%).  Please note that we are still working to  configure the system to meet U-M鈥檚 interpretation of accessibility standards, so you may see the scores and colors of the icons change in the next couple weeks. Think of this as a pilot period while we calibrate the tool.

Once the scoring is aligned with our standards, the expectation is that you should improve each document until it has a score of 91% or higher (green icon). Getting a perfect 100% score on every document is not necessary.  The Yuja Panorama tool is meant to assist in finding and fixing some accessibility problems, but it is only a tool, may not offer a perfect overall assessment of each document, and certainly isn鈥檛 an indictment of you or your teaching.  If you have questions about why a document may be scored a certain way or need guidance on fixing certain issues, please let us know by emailing [email protected].
