SUBJECT: Reserved Words

At its meeting on February 2, 2001, the CASL Executive Committee approved the reserved words listed below for use by CASL. Faculty to avoid confusion and provide a common vocabulary regarding the status of work in progress. This language is recommended for CV's, annual reports, etc.

In press: There is a written commitment to publish. All work required of the author has been completed, including all revisions, rewrites, and editing. The final completed work is in the hands of the publisher with nothing further expected of the faculty member, except reviewing galley proofs and doing index.

Accepted pending editorial changes: After a formal review process, the editor has confirmed a decision to publish but requires editorial modifications by the author.

Under review: The complete work has been submitted and is in a review process, but there is no final decision to publish. This includes revise and resubmit where there is a strong possibility of acceptance but that final stage has not yet been reached,
Under contract: There is a contract for a book, chapter, or article, but the finished manuscript has not yet been submitted to the publisher.

In process: Research or writing is underway; no contract has been signed
