CASL Course Banking Policy

The college will not accept any claims for course releases/banked releases credits in the absenceofa pre-approved signed plan (the plan must also be approved by the Dean鈥檚 Office) drafted inadvance of the release being given/earned. Under normal circumstances, any such plan cannotexceed three years in duration. If the releases are not used within thetimeframe laid out in theapproved Memorandum of Understanding (鈥淢OU鈥), they are considered null and void and thebalance is cleared. The MOU must include documentation for the releases claimed. There is no cash value for expired releases nor can they be carried forward into a new agreement. The college expects faculty to teach (on an annual basis) a minimum of 16 credit hours. Additional credit hours taught beyond the 16 credit minimum are not eligible for banking. It is the responsibility of individual faculty, in collaboration with their departments/administrative support units, to ensure the accuracy of any balances claimed.

Faculty must include with sabbatical applications a copy of any pre-approved MOU release plans and a summary of their progress toward the use of those course releases. Unspent course releases will be factored into decisions regarding sabbatical awards. Faculty members who are represented by the Lecturers鈥 Employee Organization (鈥淟EO鈥) will be paid for effort performed as the effort is rendered, and are not eligible to bank courses/credits. In unique cases where Faculty represented by LEO have accumulated banked courses/credits due to service performed during a prior semester, they must work with their chair and dean to create a Memorandum of Understanding outlining how those balances will be resolved.

In rare cases where Faculty members who are represented by the Lecturers鈥 Employee Organization may be assigned additional effort as a result of credit disparities in the curriculum, which may be caused by classes bearing differing credit loads, those credits have to be approved by the chair and dean in advance. An MOU must be created outlining how these balances will be resolved within a single academic year. Any such MOUs will follow the terms of the collective bargaining agreement to ensure compliance with the LEO contract.
